About

Good Samaritan Community Services is a group of local individuals who give their time to initiate, originate, and promote programs in the community.  In addition, they lay the foundation for new non-profit organizations that provide help to the poor, underprivileged, distressed, and elderly.  In so doing, they provide relief to those in need.

HISTORY OF GOOD SAM:

Good Samaritan Community Services began as an expansion of a program first started in Oakland in 1961.  Former Tracy mayor, Joan Sparks, had originated that program for mothers and their children as emergency housing.

When visiting Tracy in 1970, Joan noticed elderly walking to the store with huge bundles.  Upon further research she realized the need for transportation for seniors and the needy. Thus began Good Sam in 1974.

Originally the city supported many Good Sam projects, even providing a house for their office.  Eventually the financial support dwindled and Good Sam became self sufficient.
